1. Scope
Mentori is designed for school-age learners, who are typically under 18. This policy sets out how we handle their personal data and supplements our Privacy Policy.
2. Our regulatory framing (DPDP Act 2023)
For learners in India, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 is the primary regime we work to. It requires processing of a child's personal data to be based on verifiable consent from a parent or lawful guardian, prohibits tracking and behavioural advertising directed at children, and prohibits processing likely to cause detrimental effect on a child's wellbeing.
3. Parental account creation and consent
Accounts are opened by a parent or guardian on behalf of the learner. At sign-up, the account holder confirms they are the learner's parent or guardian and accepts our Terms and Privacy Policy on the learner's behalf.
In development: a formal verifiable parental consent flow — including consent capture at sign-up and identity verification of the guardian — is being built. We will describe that flow here in full once it is live rather than describe it in advance.
4. Data minimisation for under-18 learners
We collect the learner's first name and grade, plus the learning activity needed to teach and revise. We do not ask children for a phone number, home address, photographs, or contacts. Billing details belong to the parent account, never the learner profile.
5. Advertising and profiling
Mentori does not show advertising to learners and does not build advertising profiles from learning activity. Learning signals are used only to adapt teaching and revision inside the product. Work to fully gate general web analytics away from child accounts is in progress, and we will state that as a completed control here only once it is finished.
6. What parents can see
Parents can see lessons completed, check-in questions attempted, and mastery movement, plus a parent-safe summary of tutoring sessions. Full raw session transcripts are not exposed without context.
7. Deletion and access requests
A parent or guardian can request access to, correction of, or deletion of a learner's data at grievance@mentori.app. Deleting the parent account deletes the associated learner profiles.
